One of the most storied franchises in WNBA history returns to Houston just as the team’s arena undergoes its most significant transformation in decades, Toyota Center Reimagined. New facilities, designed by Generator Studio, are carved from the existing footprint to deliver equitable space for both the Houston Comets and the NBA’s Houston Rockets: the same number of lockers, the same quality of finish.
The locker room sets the tone with cream upholstery, warm lighting, and frosted glass on the lockers, making it read more like a clothing boutique than a team facility. The palette is light and airy, a deliberate contrast to the vibrant energy of the arena floor above.
A mother’s room sits off the locker room, accommodating families within the franchise. Inside the grooming suite, twelve individual vanity spots line the wall, each with a mirror, storage, and an outlet. The wet area shifts the palette deeper, pulling in the Comets’ blue and giving the suite its own material character. A private stairwell connects the locker room to the practice court, keeping player circulation discreet.
The 10,000-square-foot practice court, accented in the team’s blue and red, opens directly into the weight room. A nutrition counter at the threshold puts fuel within athletes’ reach along the player pathway. High clerestory windows bring natural light to the hardwood and into the training spaces beyond.
More than 6,000 square feet of refreshed medical training and dining spaces serve both professional sports teams. The dedicated hydrotherapy suite, sauna, and steam room are directly adjacent to the Comets locker room, keeping recovery close to the players.
