The Generator Studio team walked just a few blocks from the office to watch the final steel beam go up on The Refinery, a 147-unit mixed-use building taking shape at 1818 Main Street in Kansas City’s Crossroads Arts District.
The Refinery is designed around verticality. Its 16-story steel facade along the Kansas City Streetcar line uses patterned panels and vertical window treatments inspired by the Art Deco buildings that shaped Kansas City’s downtown. The site sits mid-block, bookended by existing buildings, and serves as efficient urban infill with a concealed parking structure and first-floor retail.
With topping out complete, work with Centric shifts to enclosure and interiors, with plans to welcome residents in late 2027. When they do, they’ll be steps from the streetcar, surrounded by the galleries, restaurants, and studios that make the Crossroads one of the city’s most walkable neighborhoods.
