With the Kansas City skyline in the distance, the Morton Amphitheater welcomes music lovers to a 16,000-capacity open-air venue, the region’s biggest live music venue in nearly two decades. Working with repeat client Live Nation, Generator Studio served as Architect of Record and Interior Designer, working directly with Live Nation’s Blueprint Studio to keep the design aligned with existing venue standards.
The design layers social energy with ease of access and opportunities to gather before a show. A park-like plaza works as a social hub before doors open, with food, merch, and an open area for lawn games and relaxing in Adirondacks ahead of the seating bowl. Tunnels cut through the back of the lawn into the seating area, so fans can reach concessions and restrooms without losing moments of the show.
Up top, a 100,000-square-foot roof covers fixed seats while skylights keep the night sky in view. Two custom lanterns serve as glowing beacons for quick-service food and beverages at the back of the lawn.
The venue’s Vinyl Room event space offers a slower pace between sets, inspired by Japanese hi-fi culture: a warm listening lounge lined with records and local memorabilia, glowing light, and listening-booth banquettes.
Behind the stage, an artist village trades the standard dressing room for an exclusive retreat, connected by an outdoor hangout space and additional dining and greenroom spaces for crew to relax and unwind.
The amphitheater welcomed visitors for its first show on June 1, 2026, ahead of a packed schedule of 40+ shows.
