The American Institute of Architects (AIA) published a design feature on CPKC Stadium, the first stadium built from the ground up for a women’s professional team. For the piece, Partner and Director of Interior Design Christina Franklin, walked them through how the design came together.
The article covers a lot of what made the project click: The team spaces were designed around these players from the start, not adapted from a men’s facility. The roof follows the Missouri River, dips over the supporters’ section to hold in the noise, and opens at the corners to frame downtown. In the premium spaces, we brought in the comfort and warmth that hospitality does well, along with a contemporary take on Kansas City’s Art Deco character. All guided by the vision of the KC Current ownership group.
