United States War Memorial

In 2014, Generator Studio was one of four firms selected by The American Battle Monuments Commission to develop design concepts for a new U.S. memorial at New Zealand’s historic War Memorial Park.

Generator Studio’s design focuses on World War II, celebrating the 100-year alliance between the United States of America and New Zealand.

Generator’s memorial design embraces the intersection of these dualities through peacekeeping, growth, and sacrifice, by encompassing dualities of peace and war; life and death; and hope and despair.

A glass-sheltered bridge lies at the intersection of two opposing gardens; The Garden of Peace and The Garden of Sacrifice. The bridge between these gardens is located on the geographical axis connecting Washington D.C. and Wellington. The bridge is used to symbolize the Arc of History where reminders of significant conflicts and peacekeeping agreements between nations are memorialized.
