Through a partnership between the Seattle Kraken and the City of Kirkland, the Kraken Iceplex & Community Center is a multi-purpose facility combining three programs under one roof—two ice rinks, a city-operated community center, and a local neighborhood restaurant.
A wood-inspired metal panel, influenced by the Pacific Northwest landscape, wraps the second-floor community center and is capped by a roofline detail that pulls the eye upward. Blue accents along the street level subtly acknowledge the Kraken brand while helping distinguish the ice center. At the corner, the restaurant invites visitors in through portal-like entries framed with inset glass. Veiled in a perforated metal screen, the dining spot stands out as a distinct destination.
Once inside, the entry reveals views to both rinks and provides intuitive paths to the lobby amenities. A Kraken team store, restaurant, skate rental, and concessions serve as the landmarks for the first-floor experience. A prominent L-shaped stair leads upstairs to viewing mezzanines and a community center, which is home to fitness and multi-purpose rooms.
Opening in Fall 2027, the Kraken Iceplex & Community Center will transform a former park-and-ride site into a vibrant third place for Kirkland residents—inspiring youth athletes, growing participation in hockey and skating, and encouraging community health.
