Since 1989, Hallbrook Country Club had remained largely unchanged while its membership evolved. Young families brought new priorities, and ownership recognized the need for a comprehensive pool complex renovation.
Members craved a destination that could rival memorable summer trips and create a resort experience within the existing club. As the architect and interior designer, our core design challenge was co-existence. A single pool deck that could serve competitive swimmers, social adults, and families with children of all ages.
The design solution: intentional zones that provided distinct spaces for different types of visitors, while expanding the pool deck and shaded areas by 40% and growing seating capacity by 33%.
The bar and social hub anchor afternoon gathering. A separate bistro handles quick walk-up ordering. The shaded kiddie pool sits adjacent to the main pool, giving families their own connected yet independent area. A new outdoor lounge overlooks both water and golf course. An indoor flex space serves as a reservable event venue, secondary operations hub during swim meets, and covered retreat from the sun.
As part of the complete pool renovation, the pool’s entry was relocated, deepening the entry point to integrate the pool more fully into the larger campus and creating a moment of transition that signals to members they have reached their poolside retreat.
Designed for club members’ personalized journeys, Hallbrook Country Club’s new pool and its surrounding amenities bring the leisurely comfort of a beach club to the quiet neighborhood of Leawood, Kansas.
