Brand Storyteller

We’re looking for a curious, organized crafter of words to work with our team of architects and designers and bring interesting work to life through creative storytelling. If you have expertise in social media, a portfolio of compelling written content, and are awesome at herding cats, you might be the person we’ve been looking for.

As the Brand Storyteller for Generator Studio, you’ll be responsible for identifying channels to reach our key audiences; concepting and writing stories to engage them; and planning & coordinating marketing activity for both employees & client audiences, including management of social media and the marketing team’s workflow.

Copywriting, proactive media relations, coordinating presentations & proposals, and developing/managing social media and web content are the key components of day-to-day work; less frequent, secondary functions include producing a bi-annual e-newsletter and event/sponsorship management. You’ll work side-by-side with the Graphic Designer (and outside creative resources as needed) to concept and develop creative work, ensuring Generator’s messaging positions the studio as an authority in all-things-design.

What’s cool about this job:

  • Work on some of the hottest projects in sports & entertainment nationwide, with clients like Live Nation, the Kansas City Current, Pacifica Hotels, Margaritaville, the Brooklyn Nets, and the Seattle Kraken. You’ll be showcasing these projects through your storytelling – it’s high profile, and high fun.
  • You’ll also share stories about meaningful work Generator does for non-profits and design-forward commercial developments in our local (KC) community.
  • You’ll be a critical part of our brand evolution as we hone our messaging and advance the outward expression of Generator’s brand.
  • You’ll be surrounded by highly collaborative teammates who are committed to design excellence in an entrepreneurial culture that celebrates individuality and hard work.
  • We place high importance on a positive and socially connected workplace because we know doing so creates a culture of well-being and improves productivity & trust. There’s always something fun happening at the office.
  • Bonus: your dog can come to work, if (s)he’s collaborative, too.
  • We’re located in the KC Crossroads, surrounded by galleries, shops, restaurants, and cultural happenings. Artists and creatives live and work here. We’re also on the streetcar line, making the commute to work free and accessible.
  • Your entire health premiums are paid for by Generator.

What a week in the life might look like:

  • Meeting with project architects and designers in a journalistic fashion to discover details that make for compelling stories
  • Communicating marketing deadlines to stakeholders on projects, using a workflow management tool to track and organize marketing work (i.e., Asana, Monday.com – TBD along with Designer)
  • Following up with staff for content needs; scheduling & leading meetings related to messaging for any/all marketing projects, from proposal messaging to content for press or social media
  • Planning the content calendar knowing upcoming project milestones, publishers’ editorial calendars, target audience(s) and relevant topics in media
  • Receiving & managing marketing project/design requests, coordinating with Graphic Designer and outside vendors on projects & timelines as needed
  • Tracking marketing expenditures to budget
  • Editing and/or writing content for award submittals, proposals, and client presentations
  • Talking with media contacts to keep Generator top-of-mind and informed on current projects, offering story angles
  • Writing a thought-leadership article on industry topics
  • Posting and engaging on Generator’s social channels (LinkedIn, Instagram, X)
  • Staying up to date on social media developments
  • Making simple updates to keep content fresh on website, using WordPress, or working with Graphic Designer & outside web developer to make changes
  • Writing and coordinating Generator’s (2-3x/yearly) e-newsletter content with Graphic Designer
  • Establishing KPIs, and tracking/sharing performance 3-4x/year on social, web, email activity
  • Maintaining good files for easy reference to assets (i.e., testimonials, awards & honors, logos, etc.)
  • Coordinating occasional events and parties
  • Brainstorming ideas and coordinating client swag, TV screens, new hire welcoming, etc. to create a hospitality-oriented environment for both employees and guests visiting Generator
  • Taking the lead on coordinating award submittals, proposals, and industry conferences; keeping a calendar of overall marketing activity and due dates with proactive management and communication.

This job is for you if you (are/have):

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Minimum three years of experience writing/sharing content and coordinating marketing workflow/project management
  • Proficiency in X, Instagram/Facebook, and LinkedIn
  • Experience with marketing project management software like Asana, monday.com, etc.
  • Media relations experience – connecting with reporters to keep them informed on topics of interest
  • Some experience with WordPress and MailChimp or willingness to learn program basics
  • Freakishly good organizational & project management skills to stay atop multiple projects in flight
  • Self-directed and not afraid to follow up on needs from others
  • Excellent grammar, proofreading and editing skills
