A growing 5-member family looking for a larger home selected Generator Studio to assist with finding a fixer-upper with good bones and potential to create an entertaining area that flows from inside to out.
As part of phase I, a top-to-bottom interior and exterior renovation including new electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems. The integrity of the original Craftsman Style home was uncompromised. Rather, we built off that style in a modern way by inserting new design elements that didn’t overwhelm the original home.
Design features include a glass garage door connecting the completely new main level to the back deck area; a canted blade roof above the breakfast area with large clerestory windows; and a two story master suite with a central fireplace feature and exposed trusses, achieved through demolishing part of the existing third floor.
During phase II, the home owner asked Generator to design an unconventional two-car garage with occupiable space on the roof and additional storage, which would seamlessly blend with the renovated home. The design solution superseded the client requirements via a modern twist on a craftsman-style, with a grass turf roof, and a floating stair connection to the main entertaining deck.
