Ice Pavilion at Kansas City Ice Center

The Kansas City Ice Center called upon Generator Studio when they made a strategic decision to add a second sheet of NHL-regulation ice to their single, indoor sheet facility.  The objective was to provide patrons with a unique outdoor skating experience and improve the facilities ability to attract and host more events.

Generator Studio led the design from inception to opening day and worked through phases of feasibility; public presentations; Planning Commission and finally technical documentation and permitting.  Scope of the project included: refrigerated slab, ice making equipment; new boards and glass; 17,000 SF pavilion roof; seating; sound and scoreboard system and a new gathering patio with fire pit.

The project has proven to be a huge success; booking of tournaments and other events have increased and the public skates have gone from a handful of visitors to hundreds.  Ice Pavilion is a now a regional destination for ice sports.
