Mike likes to think everything he knows about being a good architect can be attributed to being raised as the youngest child in a very large family. He will tell you the characteristic traits of loving a good challenge, being a team player, commitment to delivering on promises and respect of legacy were honed on the playgrounds, ball fields and dinner tables in and around Toledo, Ohio. These skills, more so than any others, are what he relies on to guide him through his professional work.
Mike’s realization that architecture would be a life-long challenge and passion arrived in his first week of architectural school at the University of Detroit, where all students kick off the academic term with a design competition known as “The Dean’s Sketch”. By witnessing 200 solutions to the same “question” play out over a juried contest of creativity, Mike realized there can be multiple solutions and design approaches to any given problem. Perhaps more importantly, he learned that the ability to defend one’s design technically, emotionally and reasonably can be as important as the design itself.
Today, Mike acts as one of the founding Partners of Generator Studio and operates as the firm’s Chief Architect. The wide array of project types in his portfolio differs greatly in scale, budget and program. Mike’s success comes from consistent delivery of thoughtful design, with attention to detail, budget and creative vision.
